Classic Games Quake, GoldenEye 007, and Tamagotchi Enter The Strong Museums Hall of Fame

The Strong National Museum of Play in New York has announced the names of four additional projects that will be inducted into its local Video Game Hall of Fame. The new entrants are Quake, GoldenEye 007, Defender, and Tamagotchi.

Among the nominees were also Age of Empires, Angry Birds, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Frogger, Golden Tee, Harvest Moon, Mattel Football, and NBA 2K. It’s important to note that the final list of nominees is compiled from thousands of submissions reviewed by a special committee. The decision on who earns a spot in the Hall of Fame is made through a joint vote from the public and committee members.

According to the press release, the four titles mentioned initially have «significantly impacted pop culture and the video game industry.» When the jury makes their selections, they assess the games on various criteria: cult status, geographic reach, longevity, and influence on the world.

Each of the winners has been honored with a short video. Here’s the one about Defender.

Here’s how the organizers described each of the 2025 inductees:

«It’s a tremendous honor for Quake to be inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame! On behalf of the entire original Quake team, we sincerely thank @museumofplay!»

The legendary John Romero, who contributed to Quake, reacted to the victory of his creation, stating that it is a significant honor and thanking the organizers on behalf of the original team behind the shooter. It’s worth mentioning that Quake is the second game from id Software to be included in the Hall of Fame; ten years prior, Doom was inducted.

Since 2015, the Video Game Hall of Fame at The Strong museum has welcomed 49 titles. Last year, Asteroids, Myst, Resident Evil, Ultima, and SimCity were among those honored.
