Chinese President Xi Jinping to Strengthen Ties with Russia During Victory Day Celebrations

Chinese President Xi Jinping will travel to Russia from May 7 to 10 to participate in the 80th anniversary of the Allied victory over Nazi Germany alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin, according to a statement from the Kremlin on Sunday.

The Kremlin announced that both leaders plan to engage in discussions aimed at «enhancing partnerships and strategic connections,» as well as addressing various topics on the international and regional agenda.

Additionally, it noted that governments and ministers are anticipated to finalize several bilateral agreements.

In light of Russia’s World War II commemorations on May 9, Putin has declared a three-day ceasefire in the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, a move that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has characterized as mere theatrics.

China has positioned itself as a neutral entity in the three-year conflict, although Western nations argue that its close relationship with Russia has provided Moscow with essential economic and diplomatic backing.
