Battery Health Feature Exclusive to Newer Google Pixel Models

Google is developing a battery health tracking feature for its Pixel smartphones, similar to what is available on the iPhone. However, this feature will only be available for the Pixel 9 and Pixel 8a, excluding the Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro, and older Pixel models, as reported by Android Authority.

The company has been working on the «Battery Health» section since the release of Android 14 QPR2 Beta 2 in December 2023. After more than two years in development, this functionality is finally being rolled out to beta users with the launch of Android 16 Beta 3.

As noted by a Reddit user, a Google developer commented on the Android issue tracker that the battery health indicator will only be appearing on the Pixel 8a and subsequent models. They stated that fixing this issue for older devices is “impossible.”

It’s worth mentioning that the Pixel 8a was released in May 2024, while the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro debuted in October 2023. In contrast, the iPhone 6, which was introduced in 2014, received its battery health menu with the iOS 11.3 update in September 2017.

In spring 2024, it was announced that Android 15 will introduce a new feature that informs users about the lifespan of the device’s internal storage chips.
