Base Achieves Near-Solana Performance with 959 Transactions Per Second

Supported by Coinbase, the Layer 2 network Base has reached a peak of 959 transactions per second (TPS), with a theoretical maximum of 1429 TPS. In comparison, Solana achieves an average of 931.2 TPS, peaking at 2909 TPS, according to data from Chainspect.

At the time of writing, Base records 142.1 TPS. The recent spikes in network activity can be attributed to the operations of launchpads and the FOMO surrounding meme coins. Jess Pollak, head of Base, indicated that the recent record was driven by launches on the AI platform Virtuals.

As reported by DeFi Llama, on May 28, the protocol generated over $93,450 in fees on Base and $3,370 on Solana.

In terms of Total Value Locked (TVL), the first network holds the sixth position with $3.74 billion, while its competitor occupies the second place with $8.93 billion.

Regarding this, Base has claimed the top spot among Ethereum rollups, surpassing Arbitrum, which has a TVL of $2.54 billion.

Previously, developers of leading Layer 2 solutions for Ethereum, including Base, agreed to collaborate on the implementation of «base rollups» to enhance security and reduce network fragmentation.

It is worth noting that Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin has acknowledged Base’s achievement as reaching the first stage of decentralization.
