Potential Putin-Trump Encounter in China Amid WWII Commemoration Events

On Monday, the Kremlin stated that the possibility of a meeting between President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump during the commemorations in China this September, which mark the conclusion of World War II, should not be dismissed.

Putin is expected to travel to China in early September to honor the 80th anniversary of Japan’s surrender, which officially ended the war.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov informed reporters, “If the U.S. president chooses to be in China at that time, then theoretically, such a meeting could be possible.”

Chinese officials have announced that the anniversary, set for September 3, will include a grand military parade in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, showcasing troops, aerial displays, and advanced military equipment.

In recent years, the Chinese Communist Party has organized prominent events to commemorate its struggle against Japanese occupation, highlighting themes of national resilience and military might.

Chinese authorities have indicated that other international leaders have also been invited to this year’s festivities, although Washington has yet to confirm whether Trump or any other senior U.S. officials will attend.
