Celebrating 25 Years of Yandex ID: A Journey from Email Login to Digital Identity

In July 2025, the «Yandex ID» service will celebrate its 25th anniversary since its launch. Over the course of a quarter-century, this product has evolved from a simple authorization method for email to a fully-fledged digital profile, as explained by Yandex to Habr. Currently, more than 136 million user accounts are active daily across the company’s services, all authenticated through «Yandex ID.» This figure has seen a 15% increase compared to the previous year: in 2024, there were 118 million accounts utilizing «Yandex ID» daily, up from 108 million in 2023.

Yandex revealed that users of ID are increasingly coming together in family groups, which allow for setting limits and paying for Yandex services using a single card, as well as accumulating shared cashback. In 2024, the number of such groups grew by 65% compared to 2023, reaching 11.1 million by mid-2025.

In June 2025, «Yandex ID» users gained the ability to manage up to 10 profiles from a single account.

In February 2024, «Yandex ID» introduced the option to log in using facial recognition or fingerprints, enabling access to accounts in just 1.5 seconds. Within a year of its launch, over 16 million users adopted this feature.

In November 2022, Yandex made it possible for parents to create additional children’s accounts within their «Yandex ID,» featuring safe search and age-appropriate content. The number of these accounts has been growing annually, reaching 1.8 million compared to 1.33 million the previous year and 220,000 in 2023.

Since December 2021, users can access partner websites through «Yandex ID.» When logging in this way, details like name and address are pulled from the primary profile in Yandex with user consent.

«Yandex ID» offers hundreds of millions of people fast and secure access to Yandex services, where active users spend an average of 214 days a year. An ID account serves as a secure location for personal data; about one in three users provides their address, and 15.7 million have uploaded documents. Behind every login, there’s an active security system at work: password accuracy is verified 13,000 times per second, and annually, anti-fraud measures prevent 4.4 million login attempts utilizing compromised passwords,» summarised Yandex.
