China’s Foreign Minister Highlights Strategic Partnership with Russia Amid Global Challenges

On Sunday, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi lauded Beijing’s strong relationship with Moscow as “strategically significant” during a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Lavrov arrived in Beijing after a trip to North Korea, where he secured assurances of support for Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

Wang declared to Lavrov, as reported by China’s Foreign Ministry, “The relations between China and Russia stand out as the most stable, mature, and strategically important among the world’s major powers today.”

He emphasized that the key focus now is to enhance their “comprehensive strategic cooperation, foster each other’s development and revitalization, and collaboratively address the challenges presented by a tumultuous and evolving world.”

The two officials addressed various regional and global matters, including the conflict in Ukraine, tensions on the Korean Peninsula, Iran’s nuclear ambitions, and the situation in Gaza, as stated by both nations.

While the Chinese statement did not reference relations with the United States, Russia’s Foreign Ministry indicated that this topic was also discussed.
