Russia Announces Capture of Myrne in Escalating Conflict in Donetsk Region

On Sunday, Russia announced that it had seized another locality in the western part of Ukraine’s Donetsk region as its forces continue their advance toward the adjacent Dnipropetrovsk area.

The comprehensive invasion of Ukraine by Moscow has persisted for over three years, with hostilities escalating this summer, while U.S.-led diplomatic efforts have thus far failed to bring an end to the conflict.

According to Russia’s Defense Ministry, Russian soldiers captured the settlement known as Myrne, referred to by its former Soviet name, “Karl Marx.”

This village is situated near the administrative boundary between the Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk regions.

The ministry asserted that its troops penetrated “deep into enemy defenses” to secure the village.

Myrne was one of two settlements that Moscow claimed on the same day.

For months, Russia has rejected a ceasefire proposal put forward by the United States and Ukraine.
