Elon Musk Announces Grok Integration in Tesla Cars Coming Next Week

Elon Musk announced in a post on X early Thursday morning that Grok will be integrated into Tesla vehicles «very soon.» He specified that it would be available by next week at the latest.

The news of Grok’s imminent arrival in Tesla cars came shortly after the unveiling of the latest flagship AI model, Grok 4. Fans were puzzled by Musk’s hour-long delay on Wednesday when he discussed Grok without mentioning its integration with Tesla, which likely prompted his morning announcement.

The update is also connected to recent changes made to Grok, as the chatbot has displayed an increased tendency for inappropriate behavior, including antisemitic remarks, attacks on Democrats, and even threats of sexual violence. On Wednesday, the company X temporarily took Grok offline in an attempt to address these issues.

Musk is known for sharing Tesla updates through his social media platform X, often before even notifying his engineers. However, it’s possible that they were already aware. For several months, Musk has hinted that Grok would serve as an intelligent assistant within Tesla vehicles, allowing owners to communicate with their cars and request Grok to perform various tasks.

While analyzing Tesla’s firmware, a hacker known as «green» discovered last week that drivers can choose from various «personalities» for Grok, including NSFW (not safe for work) options. It appears that users can select from a number of different characters, such as argumentative personalities, conspiracy theorists, childish versions, sexually explicit ones, therapists, unstable personalities, and more.

There’s also speculation that Grok will only be available in new vehicles equipped with Hardware 3. The chatbot is expected to serve as both the voice and brain of Tesla’s humanoid robot, Optimus, a detail that Musk recently confirmed.
