Study Finds 74% of New Web Pages Feature AI-Generated Content

Approximately 74% of newly created web pages on the internet feature content generated by artificial intelligence. This is reported in a study conducted by the software development firm Ahrefs.

In the course of the research, the team analyzed 900,000 English-language web pages that were created in April 2025. Ahrefs also utilized its own AI-based tool, codenamed bot_or_not, to identify generated content.

The findings are as follows:

2.5% of the pages were classified as «pure AI,» meaning all content on these pages was created by neural networks.

25.8% were categorized as «purely human,» showing no signs of AI generation.

74.2% fell into a «mixed» category, featuring both human-written text and AI-generated content.

Among the pages identified as containing a mix of human and generated content:

9.87% were classified as exhibiting «minimal AI use» (up to 10% of the total page content).

25.86% showed moderate AI use (from 11% to 40%).

20.50% had significant AI generation (from 41% to 70%).

15.51% demonstrated a predominance of AI content (from 71% to 99%).

The authors of the study suggest that these results are quite anticipated given the current landscape. It was noted in the article that researchers surveyed 879 content marketers, and 87% of them admitted to leveraging AI in their work, primarily for preparing materials for corporate blogs.

Looking ahead, Ahrefs aims to fully launch the bot_or_not AI-generated content detector as a complete product, as highlighted in the publication.
