Kremlin Sees U.S. Arms Pause as Step Toward Achieving War Objectives

On Wednesday, the Kremlin expressed approval of Washington’s decision to suspend certain arms shipments to Ukraine, asserting that diminished military assistance to Kyiv would help Russia achieve its objectives in the conflict.

«The fewer weapons sent to Ukraine, the closer we come to concluding the special military operation,» Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated during a press briefing.

His remarks followed the White House’s announcement a day prior regarding the halt of critical weapon deliveries that had been previously committed to Ukraine by the Biden administration.

In reaction to this development, Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry summoned John Ginkel, the deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, warning that any delays in military assistance would potentially encourage Russia to persist in its aggression.

«The Ukrainian side emphasized that any postponement or hesitation in bolstering Ukraine’s defense capabilities would merely embolden the aggressor to prolong the conflict,» the ministry noted in a statement.

The suspension of aid occurs at a pivotal moment for Ukraine, which has endured weeks of intense Russian attacks and is losing ground at the front.

U.S. media reported that among the equipment being withheld are Patriot air defense systems and artillery, which Kyiv deems essential for countering Russian offensives.

A senior military official in Ukraine informed AFP that the nation’s defense could be significantly jeopardized without sustained U.S. support.

«We are now heavily reliant on American weapon supplies, even though Europe is making efforts, but without U.S. ammunition it will be challenging for us,» the official stated.
