Drone Attack Targets Russian Trade Mission in Sweden, Embassy Claims

The Russian Embassy in Sweden stated on Tuesday that an unidentified drone dropped paint on the premises of its trade mission in Stockholm during the night.

According to the embassy, “The drone traversed the airspace in the vicinity and released a bag of paint in front of the main entrance to the Trade Representation.”

It accused Swedish officials of not upholding the embassy’s security as mandated by international law.

The trade mission operates under the Russian Embassy in Stockholm and provides support to Russian exporters and businesses aiming to enter the Swedish market.

The embassy remarked, “This incident is part of a troubling pattern of similar attacks recently directed at the Russian mission in Sweden, posing risks to staff safety and causing property damage.”

Last month, the Russian Foreign Ministry reported that its embassy in Stockholm had experienced no fewer than 15 «drone attacks» since May 2024.

Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Foreign Ministry, implied that Swedish authorities may have «sanctioned» the acts of vandalism against Russian diplomatic properties.

The Swedish police announced that they had initiated a preliminary inquiry into one such incident from last November and would investigate potential connections to a prior case of vandalism at Sweden’s Embassy in Moscow.
