Googles AI Mode Now Enables Interactive Two-Way Voice Conversations

Google is enabling users to engage in two-way voice conversations with its experimental feature called AI Mode. This search tool allows users to pose complex, multipart questions. Thanks to the new integration known as Search Live, users can interactively converse with the search engine and browse links throughout the internet.

To access this feature, users need to open the Google app and tap on the new «Live» icon to ask a question aloud. They will then receive an AI-generated audio response and have the opportunity to ask follow-up questions.

The announcement came just weeks after Google rolled out the AI Mode to all users in the U.S. This launch was seen as a strategic move by Google to compete with popular services like Perplexity AI and OpenAI’s ChatGPT. With this update, Google aims to enhance its voice capabilities and keep pace with these competing platforms.

Google emphasizes that this feature is particularly useful when users are on the go or multitasking. For instance, if one is packing for a trip, they might ask, “How can I keep my linen dress from wrinkling in my suitcase?” and follow up with, “What should I do if it still wrinkles?”

During the conversation, users will see links displayed on the screen in case they wish to delve deeper into a particular topic.

The Search Live functionality operates in the background, allowing users to continue their conversation while using other apps. Additionally, there’s a “Transcription” button that enables users to view a text response and continue asking questions via typing. Users can also revisit answers from Search Live by accessing the AI Mode history.

“Under the hood, Search Live in AI Mode relies on a special version of Gemini that boasts enhanced voice features,” explained Lisa Ma, Product Management Director at Google Search, in a blog post. “Our specialized model is built on top-tier quality and information systems from Search, ensuring users receive reliable and helpful responses no matter where or how they ask their questions. Search Live with voice search also utilizes our query expansion technology to present a broader and more diverse array of useful web content, opening new avenues for exploration.”

In the coming months, Google plans to enhance AI Mode further, including adding the capability to ask questions based on what the camera on your phone sees in real-time, as demonstrated during Google I/O in May.

I also want to take this opportunity to recommend BotHub, a platform where you can test all popular models without restrictions. There’s no need for a VPN to access the service, and Russian cards can be used. You can access 100,000 free tokens for initial tasks and start working right away!
