Russia Unveils Next-Gen Laser Anti-Drone Systems Amid Comprehensive Air Defense Overhaul

On Friday, the Russian government announced that it had successfully tested new anti-drone laser systems that it plans to integrate into a nationwide air defense framework.

First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov was present for the trials, accompanied by officials from the Ministry of Industry and Trade, as well as representatives from the state-owned corporations Rostec and Rosatom.

The government issued a statement explaining, «The main aim of these trials was to thoroughly evaluate the performance of the latest laser technologies in conditions that closely resemble real-world situations.»

Officials indicated that eight different laser systems, featuring various power outputs, were tested. These included portable mobile units and high-powered stationary systems, specifically designed to target a range of drones, from small reconnaissance models to larger strike variants.

A government-released video showcased a laser system engaging target drones at a secret location, followed by footage of drone debris after the strikes.

«The successful completion of these tests clears the path for the initiation of mass production and broader deployment,» the statement added.

Additionally, on Thursday, President Putin convened a meeting to assess the plans for Russia’s state armament program for the years 2027-2036. He emphasized the necessity for «new approaches and unconventional solutions» in the fight against drones.

Putin highlighted the importance of establishing a «unified» and flexible air defense network throughout Russia.
