iOS 26 Introduces eSIM Transfer Feature Between iPhone and Android Devices

Some users of iOS 26 have noticed a «Transfer to Android» option within the cellular settings. Currently, this feature is not universally available and varies by carrier, according to MacRumors.

In iOS 18, transferring an eSIM from one iPhone to another is straightforward, but moving an eSIM from an iPhone to an Android device has been more complicated. Typically, users need to reach out to their carrier to obtain a QR code, as there is no automated transfer process. However, with iOS 26, transitioning from an iPhone to an Android device is set to become easier for users.

The eSIM transfer feature to Android devices was discovered in iOS 26 DB1 by an iPhone 16 Pro Max user with a US Mobile Dark Star eSIM, who shared the finding on Reddit.

To transfer the eSIM, a QR code that appears on the iPhone screen must be scanned using the camera of the Android smartphone. The same method is applicable for transferring an eSIM from Android to iPhone.

It appears that Apple has collaborated with Google to implement this new feature, as suggested by MacRumors. Prior to the release of iOS 26, references to this capability were found in the beta version of Android 16.

Earlier, journalists from Android Authority uncovered code in Google Play Services v25.16.33 beta indicating that users may soon be able to back up and restore their SIM cards.
