Revamped Network Interaction in DCImanager: Enhancing Server Connectivity and Control

To enhance user experience when managing network resources through the physical infrastructure management platform DCImanager, and to provide greater flexibility in network deployment, we have revamped our server-to-switch connection model. Previously, we only supported intra-rack switching; now, users can also perform these operations across different racks.

Post-update, switches can now be connected to each other or grouped into a single logical stack. This functionality is essential for the proper functioning of setups that separate access switches from aggregation switches, as well as for managing switch stacking.

We also made modifications to the DCImanager connection tracking system. Previously, the management ports of the PDU (Power Distribution Unit) and UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) were not included in the tracking if they were connected to a switch, a common scenario in data centers where power is handled in an isolated network segment. Now, our customers can track this segment as well. Additionally, users were previously unable to log cascading connections for PDUs and UPS units in the system. The solution now supports all types of connections, including linking PDUs to UPS systems.

These enhancements will provide administrators with comprehensive control over network topology, streamline connection management automation, and grant greater flexibility in infrastructure design.

The implemented mechanisms for integrating with the data center map will enable the DCImanager team to offer users features such as a cable journal and network diagram visualization in the future. We also plan to refine the current updates and expand the stacking logic. For instance, a monitoring and management tool through the stack will soon be available in DCImanager, and our product team aims to improve connectivity for blade system chassis.
