Death Toll and Injuries Rise After Bryansk Region Bridge Attack: Latest Updates

The count of individuals injured in the bombing of a highway bridge over a passenger train in the western Bryansk region has climbed to 104, according to officials on Monday, while the fatality count has remained at seven.

Seven individuals lost their lives late on Saturday when an explosion occurred on a bridge above a Moscow-bound train carrying 388 passengers, as reported by Bryansk region Governor Alexander Bogomaz to state media.

On Monday, Bogomaz announced that the number of injured had increased to 104, with three in critical condition, as reported by the state-run TASS news agency. Assistant Health Minister Alexei Kuznetsov mentioned that 64 people, including four children, had been admitted to hospitals.

Hours following the Bryansk incident, a different rail bridge was destroyed in the adjacent Kursk region, resulting in a freight train derailment and injuring its driver.

No organization has taken responsibility for either event.

Russia’s Investigative Committee, responsible for examining major crimes, stated it is actively investigating the details surrounding both explosions. Initially, investigators suggested that a “detonation” caused the highway bridge’s collapse, but that statement was later retracted.

In a related incident, Ukraine’s military intelligence agency (HUR) reported that a Russian military freight train transporting fuel to annexed Crimea was destroyed near the Russian-occupied city of Melitopol in Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia region on Saturday night. HUR did not take credit for this action.
