New Password Change Rules on Gosuslugi Effective June 2025 to Enhance User Security

Starting June 1, 2025, the procedure for changing passwords on the «Gosuslugi» portal has been updated, as reported by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. The platform will now send a confirmation code for the operation only if there is no ongoing phone call. According to the Ministry, this change aims to enhance user protection against fraudsters who employ screen-sharing schemes.

Additionally, on June 2, human rights activist and retired judge Vladimir Komsalev announced that a new feature would soon be available on the portal. Users will have the option to designate a trusted person who can approve password changes. Komsalev indicated that this measure would make it more difficult for criminals to carry out their schemes. Previously, the Ministry had reported on a new fraud tactic involving access to the «Gosuslugi» services.

Effective from June 1, a federal law aimed at protecting citizens from fraud has also been implemented. This law prohibits government officials, bank employees, and communications operators from using foreign messaging apps while interacting with clients. Furthermore, SIM cards can only be transferred to close relatives. The government is currently preparing a second package of measures, which will include both criminal and administrative penalties for cyber fraud.
