Release of Microsoft Edge 137: New Features, Security Patches, and Streamlined Performance

On May 29, 2025, the stable version of the Microsoft Edge browser, version 137, was released for Windows 10/11, macOS, and Linux. This latest update includes bug fixes, new policies, security patches, as well as enhancements to the sidebar. The previous version of the browser was launched in early May.

Microsoft Edge build 135 contains security patches aimed at addressing specific vulnerabilities and updates pertaining to the Chromium project.

In this new version, several components have been removed, with developers planning a phased removal by mid to late May. These include the Image Editor, Image Hover Menu, Mini Menu, Video Super Resolution, and Wallet Hub (for instance, the «Wallet» option has been taken out of the «Settings» section). Microsoft has opted to eliminate these features to streamline browser usage.

Key changes and additions in Microsoft Edge 137 include:

— Enhancements to the Picture-in-Picture mode, featuring new playback controls. Now, users can open videos in Picture-in-Picture mode and easily pause, play, fast forward, rewind, and search through the progress bar directly from the Picture-in-Picture window.

— Web content filtering (for Edge for Business) is being updated daily by Microsoft to keep its policies and blocklists current. This option is currently available in a public preview. The feature aims to help ensure internet safety for employees. It can be configured using the Microsoft Edge Management Service.

— Microsoft Copilot in Microsoft Edge now supports generating summaries of web pages and contextual queries in the «Work» tab for Microsoft 365 Copilot Business Chat.

— Microsoft Edge for Business introduces support for Microsoft 365 Copilot Chat in the «Find on Page» feature (CTRL+F), designed to facilitate users in locating relevant content more efficiently and save time.
