Macrons Viral Misstep: Kremlins Spokeswoman Jokes About Domestic Dispute

On Monday, a spokesperson for Russia’s Foreign Ministry ridiculed a viral video featuring French President Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte Macron, disembarking from a plane.

Maria Zakharova commented on Telegram that Macron appeared to have received «a right hook from his wife» upon their arrival in Hanoi.

She speculated that Macron’s team would attempt to rationalize the incident. «Did the first lady intend to comfort her husband with a light touch and simply misjudge her force? Was she offering him a tissue but ended up missing? Or perhaps she meant to straighten his collar but inadvertently touched his cherished face?» she quipped.

«Here’s a suggestion: maybe it was the ‘hand of the Kremlin’?» she implied.

In the clip, Macron seems to pull his face away from Brigitte’s hand, which some interpreted as a sign of discord between the couple.

Macron has dismissed any notion of a «domestic dispute,» asserting that they were merely «joking as we often do» and pointing out that other recordings had also been taken out of context, such as one that falsely suggested he was sharing a bag of cocaine or confronting the Turkish president.

«None of these claims are true,» he stated, urging everyone to «calm down.»

The video has been frequently aired on Russian state television and shared widely on social media accounts that oppose the French president.

Zakharova, alongside American conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, previously made an incorrect accusation that Macron and his German and British counterparts were using drugs on a train from Ukraine, mistaking a crumpled tissue for cocaine based on a low-resolution video.

Despite the subsequent debunking of these claims, they still warranted a significant response from both the Elysée Palace and the French Foreign Ministry.
