FSB Apprehends Suspect Linked to May 9 Parade Bombing Scheme in Kaliningrad

On Friday, Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the apprehension of a 25-year-old individual suspected of planning an attack on a military parade that occurred earlier this month in the Kaliningrad region.

Authorities indicated that the suspect intended to detonate an explosive device along the parade route during the May 9 event, which honors the Soviet victory in World War II.

The FSB reported that the man was recruited by a Ukrainian contact through Telegram, who provided him with guidance on executing the attack.

In a video released by state media, the individual—his face obscured—stated that he had communicated with an unknown Ukrainian “coordinator” last month and received $150 in cryptocurrency for taking photographs of a rehearsal for the parade on May 5.

“I was instructed to collect an explosive device from a hidden location and was promised $205,000,” he revealed in the video.

It remains unclear if his confession was made under coercion.

The FSB noted that if found guilty of planning sabotage and terrorism, the suspect could face up to 20 years in prison.
