FIFA to Launch Its Own Blockchain on Avalanche Network for Enhanced Digital Asset Development

The International Federation of Football (FIFA) is set to launch its own blockchain powered by the Avalanche network.

This new platform will be compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM). The organization plans to migrate its FIFA Collect NFT collection from Algorand and Polygon.

The decision to transition to the new network is driven by the need to enhance the speed, scalability, and security of the ecosystem, according to Francesco Abbate, CEO of FIFA Collect.

He noted that integrating with Avalanche will facilitate connections to popular cryptocurrency wallets and lay the groundwork for further development of FIFA’s digital assets.

Support for Algorand and Polygon for the NFT collection will cease after the migration is complete. The exact timeline for the blockchain launch has not been disclosed.

It’s worth recalling that in April, FIFA announced its plans for the EVM-compatible blockchain for the first time.

In March, FIFA President Gianni Infantino indicated the possibility of developing a token to engage with its global fan base.
