Bungies Subscription Plan for Destiny 2 Rejected by Employees: A Close Look at Internal Dynamics

Journalist **Destin Legarie** recently **spoke** with former developers of **Bungie**, who revealed to him that upper management had seriously considered implementing a paid subscription for **Destiny 2**. However, the idea was “firmly” rejected by the team during the early stages of discussion. Studio employees unanimously expressed that a subscription would go against the project’s spirit, and after a heated debate, the team categorically dismissed the initiative.

In addition to the subscription issue, interviewees recalled several instances where management prioritized monetization over user interests. One notable example involved criticism of the “too appealing” glow of PvP armor from the Trials of Osiris. Management feared that the effect would distract players from making purchases in the Eververse store, leading to a stern reprimand for developers who focused too much on “cosmetics.”

Concerns also arose regarding the «alienation» caused by the HR department and a corporate culture where any internal conflict or even discussions about layoffs on social media were met with official warnings. Former employees noted that ideas from the «bottom» were often overlooked, and suggestions were mockingly dismissed if they didn’t originate from management.

Meanwhile, **Bungie** is preparing to release a major expansion, **Edge of Fate**, for **Destiny 2** in July, and is set to launch a new project, **Marathon**, this fall.
