Mark Your Calendars: The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum Set to Premiere on December 17, 2027

Warner Bros. has officially announced the premiere date for the highly anticipated film «The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum» — it is set to be released on December 17, 2027.

This marks the first full-length feature film in the «Lord of the Rings» universe since the «Hobbit» trilogy. The film was first announced in May of last year, originally scheduled for a 2026 release, but the production timeline has since been pushed back by a year.

As the title suggests, Gollum plays a pivotal role in the storyline. The iconic character will once again be portrayed by Andy Serkis, who will also take on directing duties. The screenplay is being penned by Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens, both of whom contributed to Peter Jackson’s film trilogies of «The Lord of the Rings» and «The Hobbit«. Notably, Jackson himself is serving as one of the executive producers.

The film’s events will unfold alongside the beginning of the «Lord of the Rings» saga, specifically in the time frame between Bilbo’s birthday and Gollum’s arrival in Moria. The cast has yet to be revealed, although it’s worth mentioning that actors Ian McKellen, Viggo Mortensen, and Orlando Bloom have previously expressed interest in reprising their roles if their characters are included in the narrative.
