Netflix Unveils Conversational AI Search for Enhanced Content Discovery

Netflix has unveiled a new search feature powered by generative artificial intelligence developed by OpenAI. This information comes from TechCrunch.

The tool enables users to search for desired content using a conversational approach. Users can input natural prompts such as «I want something funny and upbeat» or «I’m looking for something scary, but not too frightening, and maybe a bit humorous, but not laugh-out-loud funny.»

The AI evaluates not only the words used but also the meaning, tone, and context of the request, taking into account previous viewing habits to provide personalized suggestions. The search experience feels more like a conversation with someone who knows the user’s preferences well.

This feature has been launched in beta on iOS. Some users in Australia and New Zealand have already gained access, with plans for broader geographic rollout, including the U.S. market, in the coming months.

Additionally, Netflix expressed its commitment to utilizing generative AI to refresh title cards in the languages preferred by subscribers.

As a reminder, in February 2023, Netflix employed AI to create backgrounds for the anime The Dog & The Boy due to a «labor shortage.»
