Rubio Issues Ultimatum: U.S. Mediation Dependent on Tangible Proposals from Russia and Ukraine

On Tuesday, Secretary of State Marco Rubio cautioned that the United States will withdraw from mediation efforts unless Russia and Ukraine present «concrete proposals» aimed at resolving the conflict, according to his spokesperson.

«We are currently at a point where both parties must provide tangible plans for how to conclude this conflict,» State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce conveyed to journalists, relaying Rubio’s message.

«If progress isn’t made, we will withdraw our role as mediators in this situation.»

She noted that the ultimate decision on whether to continue diplomatic efforts lies with President Donald Trump.

Recently, Russian President Vladimir Putin suggested a three-day ceasefire to coincide with Moscow’s observance of the end of World War II, but he has dismissed a U.S. proposal, supported by Ukraine, for a 30-day ceasefire.

The United States is seeking «not just a brief three-day pause for celebrations, but a comprehensive and lasting ceasefire to bring the conflict to an end,» Bruce stated.
