Brazilian Crypto Ponzi Scheme Organizer Sentenced to 128 Years in Prison

The organizer of the Brazilian Ponzi cryptocurrency scheme Braiscompany, Joel Ferreira de Souza, has been sentenced to 128 years, five months, and 28 days in prison. This information was reported by local media.

The court found him guilty of 11 counts of money laundering. Braiscompany managed to attract over $189 million from 20,000 investors.

The case also involved two other defendants. Jezana Rayane Silva, who worked as a broker for the company and was responsible for cash transportation, received a sentence of 27 years, 10 months, and 10 days in prison.

Victor Augusto Verones de Souza, Joel’s son, aided in the illegal financial activities and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Two other defendants were acquitted due to insufficient evidence.

Recall that in March 2024, the founder of Braiscompany, Inacio da Silva Neto, and his wife, Farias Campos, were arrested in Argentina. They were sentenced to 88 and 61 years in prison, respectively.
