Russias Devastating Nighttime Air Assault on Ukraine Targets Hospitals and Civilian Areas

Overnight, Russia’s military executed a series of aerial assaults on Ukraine, launching six missiles and numerous drones, resulting in one fatality and inflicting damage on two hospitals, as reported by Ukrainian officials early Wednesday.

The Ukrainian air force indicated that its defense systems intercepted 72 out of 145 drones but did not provide information regarding the missiles.

Prosecutors disclosed that a hospital located in the northeastern Sumy region was struck late Tuesday, while it housed 21 staff members and 147 patients. Additionally, another nearby hospital faced multiple attacks while 11 staff and 49 patients took shelter inside.

«The hospital facilities suffered extensive damage, and a fire erupted,» stated the prosecutor general’s office.

In a separate incident, a Russian strike on a residential building in the Sumy area resulted in the death of a 29-year-old man and injuries to three others, according to prosecutors.

These attacks occurred just hours after Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump discussed a temporary halt on strikes against Ukrainian energy infrastructure, a move also supported by Ukraine. However, the anticipated conversation did not lead to a more comprehensive ceasefire arrangement.

In addition, Ukraine’s national railway service reported that drones targeted an energy facility related to the railway in the central Dnipropetrovsk region, though train operations remained uninterrupted.

«So much for a pause in the attacks on the energy sector or an ‘energy truce’ from the adversary,» the railway service commented in a statement.

In Bucha, near Kyiv, a French national sustained injuries during a drone attack overnight, as reported by AFP journalists.

The suburb, which witnessed damages to several vehicles and buildings, had been under Russian occupation shortly after the full-scale invasion began in February 2022.
