Kremlin Blasts European Militarization Amid Ongoing Ukraine Conflict

On Thursday, the Kremlin accused European nations of focusing on military expansion instead of pursuing peace initiatives, as high-ranking Western military leaders convened in the UK to discuss assistance for Ukraine.

Key European nations, such as France and the United Kingdom, have aimed to increase their defense budgets since Donald Trump became President of the United States in January, driven by rising concerns that the U.S. might reduce its commitment to security in Europe.

As Trump has strengthened ties with Russia, the Kremlin has increasingly held Europe responsible for extending the conflict in Ukraine, claiming that the EU and the UK are hindering peace efforts.

“The predominant messages from Brussels and European capitals revolve around intentions to militarize Europe,” Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated to journalists.

“Europe has chosen the path of militarization and has effectively turned into a faction advocating for war,” he further commented.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who, along with French President Emmanuel Macron, is spearheading the initiative to create a so-called «coalition of the willing,» is set to address a gathering of approximately 30 military officials later on Thursday.

Both Starmer and Macron have expressed their willingness to consider sending peacekeeping forces to Ukraine after a ceasefire between Moscow and Kyiv, a proposal that Russia opposes.
