From Skinny to Strong: Joao Fonseca Reflects on His Year of Growth

The 60th ranked player in the world, 18-year-old Brazilian tennis player **[João Fonseca](https://www.example.com)**, shared insights about his development in both physical and mental aspects.

– Over time, I will catch up on the physical side. A year ago, I was quite thin and lacked muscle, but now I feel much better on the court, especially during five-set matches in Grand Slam events. I’ve really made significant progress in this area.

As for the mental aspect, that will come with experience. This is my second year on tour, gaining new experiences. It’s my first time here in Miami, so I’m simply enjoying every moment and getting acquainted with new tournaments. I believe that mental strength is crucial when facing strong opponents—players from the top 50, top 20, or even top 10. By participating in such tournaments, I will gain more experience, and my mental resilience will improve, the Brazilian athlete mentioned during a press conference.

Last week, Fonseca secured a Challenger title in Phoenix, defeating Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik in the final.
