Microsoft Begins Revoking Free Copies of Alan Wake Remastered from Xbox Accounts

Microsoft has begun the process of retracting copies of Alan Wake Remastered that users on Xbox had received due to a technical glitch. The news was initially shared by Wario64 in a post on X.

He posted a screenshot of a notification received through the Xbox app, which stated: “You recently acquired a version of Alan Wake Remastered that was not meant to be available. We are canceling your order, issuing a refund, and removing the game from your library.

If you claimed a free copy of Alan Wake Remastered on the Xbox Store over a month ago, it appears that the company has finally revoked access due to the glitch pic.twitter.com/jYpWqnaPHp.

This action comes more than a month after players discovered a clever method to add the Remedy title to their accounts. The bug was identified at the end of January when downloading a three-hour trial of Alan Wake 2 provided users with a 100% discount on the remaster of the original game. However, Microsoft quickly put an end to this exploit.

Reactions from the community on the former Twitter platform were mixed: some labeled it as greed, while others accepted the situation, pointing out the frequent sales. A third group expressed concern that they might lose access to recently acquired copies due to the glitch affecting Dragon Ball FighterZ. It’s worth noting that for some users, the game remained on their accounts even after receiving the notification.
