Zelensky Accuses Putin of Deceptive Tactics on Ceasefire Proposal

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ambiguous reaction to a proposed ceasefire on Thursday, labeling it as «highly manipulative.»

«In recent discussions, we’ve all heard Putin’s predictable and manipulative responses regarding the ceasefire proposal,» Zelensky remarked during his evening address.

In his initial public comments about a 30-day ceasefire suggested by the United States and supported by Ukraine, Putin expressed his support but voiced «serious concerns» regarding its execution.

Washington has urged Russia to agree to a ceasefire without any preconditions, yet Putin identified several hindrances to that process.

«We aren’t imposing conditions that create complications; it’s Russia that’s doing that,» Zelensky stated.

«As we’ve always maintained, the sole party that’s prolonging the situation and acting unconstructively is Russia.»

Zelensky accused Putin of «essentially preparing to refuse» while suggesting that he was «too afraid to directly inform President Trump of his desire to continue the war.»

He also claimed that Putin was «setting the ceasefire proposal within such conditions that nothing could be achieved, or at least for the longest time possible.»

In his remarks on Thursday, Putin expressed worries that Ukraine might leverage a ceasefire to gain military advantage and underscored Russia’s intention to continue advancing as its forces made progress.

He also questioned how monitoring could be effectively conducted along a front line that stretches for thousands of kilometers.

«Putin frequently employs this tactic—he avoids saying ‘no’ outright but instead creates circumstances that effectively delay everything and render viable solutions impossible. We view this as yet another instance of Russian manipulation,» Zelensky added.

He noted that the American side had stated their readiness to facilitate oversight and verification of the ceasefire.

«It is entirely possible to manage this with the capabilities of the United States and Europe. Additionally, we can prepare answers to all queries regarding long-term security and establishing a real, dependable peace during the ceasefire, while also presenting a plan for ending the war,» Zelensky concluded.
