Telegram to Introduce Account Freezing Feature for Rule Violators

According to information from Telegram Info, the messaging platform Telegram will soon have the capability to suspend accounts of violators. During this suspension period, users will still be able to log into their accounts, but they will be unable to send messages or perform other actions within the service.

In the source code of Unigram, the team at Telegram Info discovered new lines indicating that in a future update, the messenger may be able to change an account’s status to «frozen.»

From this code, we can infer the following:

— Accounts may be frozen for violations of the platform’s rules.
— During the freezing period, users will «be able to access their account, but will not be able to send messages or take any actions.» A frozen account will be in «read-only» mode. It is likely that this restriction will also apply to direct messages sent to contacts.
— Telegram may allow users to dispute the decision via @SpamBot. If the freeze is not lifted, the account will be deleted.
— Other users might see a special label on the profiles of frozen accounts.
— It is unclear whether the freeze mode will apply to all accounts that are ultimately blocked before deletion.
— This feature is still under development, and the information provided is speculative from the Telegram Info team. Details may be inaccurate or change in the future.
