Deutsche Telekom Unveils AI-Powered Smartphone Featuring Perplexity Assistant

Deutsche Telekom has announced an AI smartphone powered by the Perplexity chatbot. The product was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona.

This device features the digital assistant Perplexity AI and a suite of AI tools, all running on Deutsche Telekom’s proprietary system—Magenta AI. The Magenta AI platform will be accessible to all users through the MeinMagenta app, without the need for new hardware; the official release of the smartphone is slated for the latter half of 2025.

Deutsche Telekom showcased the concept of this smartphone at MWC 2024, marketing it as a «no-apps» device that is voice-activated and capable of independently booking flights or making restaurant reservations.

In a press release, Claudia Nemat, a board member of Deutsche Telekom, stated that the forthcoming AI phone with the Perplexity Assistant will enable users to book taxis and shop without having to switch between applications.

Specific technical details of the anticipated gadget remain undisclosed. However, based on the available images, it resembles budget Android phones with large bezels at the top and bottom.

As a reminder, in February, Apple introduced the iPhone 16e priced at $599, featuring AI capabilities through its Apple Intelligence system.

Furthermore, in January, Samsung announced the new Galaxy S25 flagship smartphone series, emphasizing an enhanced chip and a focus on artificial intelligence.
