Виталик Бутерин призывает к реформам для улучшения эффективности ДАО Translation: Vitalik Buterin Calls for Reforms to Enhance the Efficiency of DAOs

The co-founder of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin, has urged the cryptocurrency community to develop more advanced and efficient DAOs.

“The impetus for creating Ethereum was greatly inspired by decentralized autonomous organizations: systems comprised of code and rules that exist within decentralized networks, capable of managing resources and directing activities more effectively and sustainably. […] Since then, the concept of DAOs has essentially been reduced to just a treasury,” he stated.

The software developer labeled the prevailing token-based governance model as unproductive and weak.

According to him, the current design functions but is also inefficient, vulnerable to takeover, and “fails entirely at mitigating the shortcomings of human politics.” This is what Buterin identifies as the reason behind the community’s skepticism towards the DAO concept.

Vitalik Buterin highlighted several crucial areas needing advancement in DAO architecture. One of these includes the development of more robust oracles to support decentralized finance.

“Today, key elements of DeFi — stablecoins, prediction markets, and others — rely on vulnerable oracle models. The main issue is that an attack on a tokenized oracle can never be worth more than its market capitalization. This means that to ensure security, it must extract excessive rent, exceeding the risk-free rate,” he noted.

Among other significant areas, Buterin outlined:

He believes that the primary barriers hindering the “normal” functioning of decentralized autonomous organizations are the lack of privacy and “decision fatigue.”

“Without privacy, governance becomes a social game. And when people have to make decisions every week, in the first month, you see active participation, but over time, the willingness to engage and even stay informed diminishes,” he emphasized.

As a solution, the programmer suggested employing ZK proofs and artificial intelligence. However, he views AI with caution, asserting that technology should enhance rather than replace human judgment.

Buterin also pointed out the critical role of communication within DAOs. He believes that forums and discussion platforms need to be more deeply integrated into governance mechanisms.

“Only in this way can we guarantee that the decentralization and resilience of the Ethereum base layer extend to the world being built upon it,” he concluded.

It’s worth recalling that Vitalik Buterin stated that the project aims to regain its lost ground on issues of self-governance and trust by 2026.
