Billionaire Elon Musk has requested the recovery of $134 billion in «unlawful profits» from OpenAI and Microsoft, which the AI startup reportedly gained through his early support. This information was reported by Reuters, citing court documents.

According to Musk, OpenAI profited between $65.5 billion and $109.4 billion from his involvement as one of the founders in 2015. His investments in Microsoft are estimated to be between $13.3 billion and $25.1 billion amid litigation involving the corporation.

OpenAI has labeled the lawsuit as «baseless» and part of a campaign of «harassment» from the former co-founder.

Musk, who heads the competing project xAI, departed from the startup in 2018. He contends that OpenAI abandoned its original mission when it transitioned to a commercial entity.

The entrepreneur claims that his investments accounted for approximately 60% of the company’s seed funding. This financing enabled OpenAI to recruit key personnel and secure significant contracts during its early stages.

The estimated damages were calculated by Musk’s financial advisor, Si Paul Vazzan.

A jury trial for the case is scheduled for April. OpenAI and Microsoft have already filed a request to shield jurors from the “fabricated, unverified, and implausible” claims of the former donor. The companies also challenged Musk’s asserted damage figures, questioning the credibility of his expert analysis.

It’s worth noting that in January, OpenAI launched ChatGPT Health for health-related consultations. Medical professionals supported the initiative, while competitors introduced alternatives.
