OpenAI has introduced the ability to customize ChatGPT to a personal level. Users can select characteristics for the chatbot, such as warmth, enthusiasm, and the use of emojis.

These settings can be adjusted in the «Personalization» menu within the configuration options. Users have the choice to increase or decrease these settings, with «default» as the standard option.

The new capabilities allow for a more tailored tone in ChatGPT, complementing the base style selection feature rolled out in November, which had been a point of contention in 2025. In April, OpenAI retracted an update due to the chatbot’s «excessive flattery.» Following this, they refined GPT-5 to give the model a «warmer and friendlier» disposition.

Some experts view the tendency of AI to praise users and validate their beliefs as a «dark pattern» that can lead to addiction and have negative impacts on mental health.

In response, OpenAI updated its guidelines for interacting with teenagers to mitigate potential risks to their mental well-being.

This decision comes amid rising criticism from politicians, educators, and human rights advocates. Public concern has intensified following several tragic suicide cases among teenagers who had prolonged interactions with chatbots.

In December, 42 state attorneys general called on tech giants to bolster the safety of AI systems to protect children and vulnerable populations.

Simultaneously, Senator Josh Hawley introduced legislation proposing a complete ban on access to AI chats for minors.

The updated model specifications from OpenAI build on existing versions, which prohibit the generation of sexual content or the encouragement of self-harm.

These rules will be implemented in conjunction with a forthcoming age prediction system that will automatically apply restrictions for underage users.

OpenAI is negotiating to raise up to $100 billion with a company valuation of $830 billion. According to The Wall Street Journal, the ChatGPT developer aims to finalize this deal before the first quarter of 2026, potentially involving funds from sovereign wealth sources.

The startup has committed to spending over $1.4 trillion on AI infrastructure, even though it may still remain unprofitable.

Successfully closing this funding round would significantly enhance the company’s financial stability. Per PitchBook, OpenAI’s current reserves are estimated at $64 billion.

It is worth noting that OpenAI is preparing for an IPO with a projected valuation of $1 trillion, which could become one of the largest in history.
