OpenAI запускает инновационный магазин приложений в ChatGPT, открывая новые горизонты для разработчиков Translated headline: OpenAI Launches Innovative App Store in ChatGPT, Opening New Horizons for Developers

OpenAI has launched an app store for ChatGPT, enabling developers to deploy their own applications within the chatbot by submitting an application.

The first approved applications are set to become available in 2026. The most sought-after tools may eventually gain prioritization or recommendations from the AI.

Users can browse the available options in the app catalog, accessible from the «Tools» menu or at chatgpt.com/apps.

Developers have the option to share direct links on external platforms, guiding users straight to the application’s page in the catalog.

Once connected, applications can be activated during conversations using the @ symbol. The company is experimenting with displaying them contextually—without explicit mentions—based on conversation context, usage patterns of third-party solutions, and user preferences.

To facilitate such integrations, OpenAI introduced the Apps SDK, which allows developers to embed context and active functionalities directly into the ChatGPT interface.

«The most powerful applications are well-focused, easy to understand in chat, and clearly deliver value—either by completing real workflows that begin with discussions or by creating new, completely AI-oriented capabilities within ChatGPT,» the startup noted in its blog.

In the initial phase, developers will be allowed to redirect users to external sites for purchasing physical products, with further monetization strategies under consideration.

«Over time, we want applications in ChatGPT to be seen as a natural extension of conversation—helping people move from ideas to actions and fostering a sustainable ecosystem for developers,» OpenAI emphasized.

In October, Sam Altman’s company introduced the ability to create applications within ChatGPT, enabling users to interact directly with services like Booking.com, Expedia, Spotify, Figma, Coursera, Zillow, Canva, and others.

In December, tools from Adobe, including Photoshop, Acrobat, and Express, were integrated into the chatbot. Users can design and edit images and PDF files directly within the chatbot interface.

Growing competition from Google and other AI companies prompted Altman to declare a «red code.»

It turned out that such a decision has been made before. The startup’s leadership had previously instructed employees to set aside less crucial tasks and concentrate fully on a primary objective.

«We do this when we want to focus efforts on a particular topic,» said OpenAI’s research director, Mark Chen.

The latest «red code» has been declared amid the rising popularity of solutions from Google and Anthropic. Gemini is becoming an increasingly popular AI service, closing in on ChatGPT in terms of user demand.

In November, Google unveiled its flagship model Gemini 3, which is regarded as «the best in the world.» Later, the company released a new version of its image generation tool—Nano Banana Pro.

Since the announcement of the «red code,» OpenAI has rolled out several releases in response to the American corporation’s offerings—GPT-5.2 and an updated version of the ChatGPT Images generator—GPT Image 1.5.

It is worth noting that in December, Google released the Gemini 3 Flash language model and made it the standard in the Gemini app and AI mode in the search engine.
