Бутан инвестирует 10 000 BTC в создание нового «города осознанности» Translation: Bhutan invests 10,000 BTC in the creation of a new City of Awareness

The Kingdom of Bhutan has initiated the Bitcoin Development Pledge program. The government plans to allocate up to 10,000 BTC (approximately $1 billion) to bolster the national economy.

The primary objective of this program is to support the construction of the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC). This economic hub in the southern part of the kingdom is focused on sustainable development and innovation.

In the upcoming months, the government will finalize an asset management strategy. Options under consideration include using Bitcoin as collateral, low-risk income generation tools, and long-term storage solutions.

Preserving capital and maintaining its purchasing power for future generations remains a top priority, as Bhutan anticipates further appreciation of the first cryptocurrency.

In a national address, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck likened the GMC to a company and its citizens to shareholders:

“I announce the allocation of up to 10,000 BTC, valued at approximately $1 billion, to support this initiative. This is a commitment to our people, our youth, and our nation.”

The GMC will attain the status of a special administrative region. Transparent regulations are expected to attract international business in fintech and digital assets.

Bhutan has been mining cryptocurrencies for several years using renewable hydropower. This mining practice allows the country to monetize surplus energy generation without harming the environment.

The country ranks seventh globally in terms of reserves in digital gold, holding 5,984 BTC valued at over $517 million.

Bhutan is also actively integrating blockchain technologies. The country has launched a digital identification system for 800,000 citizens and has introduced the TER token, backed by physical gold.

It is worth noting that GMC and the market maker Cumberland DRW have signed a memorandum of understanding. The partners will work on developing the digital asset ecosystem and financial infrastructure in the kingdom.
