Изменение курса: Новый мэр Нью-Йорка угрожает перспективам криптовалютной индустрии Translation: Heading: Changing Course: New Yorks New Mayor Threatens Cryptocurrency Industry Outlook

Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani has emerged victorious in the New York City mayoral election. According to Associated Press, Mamdani secured 50.6% of the vote, while his opponent, Andrew Cuomo, garnered 41.2%.

Mamdani’s ascension to power could bring significant changes to the city’s once-friendly approach to cryptocurrency. In contrast, Cuomo had previously proposed establishing a Chief Innovation Officer position aimed at fostering blockchain and cryptocurrency development.

Rebecca Liao, CEO of the Web3 protocol Saga, stated that cryptocurrency issues aren’t a top priority for Mamdani’s electorate. She referred to Cuomo as an «establishment Democrat,» who historically defended the tech sector.

The outgoing mayor, Eric Adams, had actively championed digital assets, even accepting his first three paychecks in Bitcoin and establishing a blockchain office.

Meanwhile, in neighboring New Jersey, Democrat Mikie Sherrill won the gubernatorial election, receiving 57% of the votes, surpassing Republican Jack Ciattarelli’s 42.4%.

The lobbying group Stand with Crypto emphasized the significance of this race for the industry, stating that they mobilized «cryptocurrency voters» who played a crucial role. According to the organization, over 80,000 of their supporters reside in New Jersey.
