Снижение ущерба от криптохакерских атак: убытки в III квартале составили $509 млн Losses from Crypto Hacks Decrease: Q3 Damage Totals $509 Million

Overall losses in the digital asset industry due to hacking incidents decreased by 37% in the third quarter, amounting to $509 million, according to a report from CertiK.

However, September set an unfortunate record for the number of significant incidents, with 16 attacks (excluding phishing) reported within the month, each causing damages exceeding $1 million.

In July and August, the figures were eight and five incidents, respectively. For the first three quarters of 2025, there have been 302 hacks recorded, down from 472 in 2024.

In the third quarter, losses attributed to code vulnerabilities saw a dramatic decline compared to the previous quarter, shrinking from $272 million to $78 million, as reported by Cointelegraph, citing CertiK’s complete report. Losses related to phishing also decreased, despite the similar number of incidents.

Experts noted that there have been no significant hacks exceeding $100 million in the past three months; instead, attackers focused on mid-level assaults.

Centralized exchanges suffered the heaviest losses, with $182 million reported stolen.

«Exchanges, along with DeFi projects, continue to be lucrative targets for attackers, particularly for state-sponsored groups,» CertiK stated.

Nevertheless, the complex nature of decentralized finance still attracts hackers, the researchers emphasized. The DeFi sector ranked second in terms of losses, totaling $86 million.

One of the largest incidents was an attack on the decentralized exchange GMX, which resulted in a theft of $40 million. However, the hacker returned the funds for a reward of $5 million.

It is worth noting that on September 30, rumors about a hack of the DeFi protocol Pendle emerged. The team denied these claims.
