Виталик Бутерин: Низкорисковый DeFi как движущая сила для Ethereum, аналогичная поиску Google Vitalik Buterin: Low-Risk DeFi as a Driving Force for Ethereum, Comparable to Googles Search

Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, identified the low-risk DeFi sector as the primary economic engine of the ecosystem. He believes it can fulfill a role for the network similar to that of search functionality for Google.

Buterin drew a parallel to a corporate business model, where search and advertising generate the main revenue that funds other projects within the company. He posits that low-risk DeFi can also support Ethereum by providing income for the advancement of non-financial and experimental applications, such as social networks or identification systems.

Previously, Buterin was skeptical about the decentralized segment due to high risks and an emphasis on speculation. However, over time, protocols have become safer, and their primary value now lies in offering global access to payments and savings in stable assets. He believes that for many individuals worldwide, the risks associated with the traditional financial system now outweigh the potential dangers of «mature DeFi.»

He emphasized that low-risk DeFi aligns with the community’s goals. This sector generates income through fees and the use of Ethereum as collateral while also serving an essential social function—granting people access to financial tools. Unlike Google’s advertising model, which incentivizes data collection, decentralized finance does not create «perverse incentives» for the first layer network.

In the future, this sector could lay the groundwork for more complex products. Among these, Buterin highlighted reputation-based lending and the transition from dollar-pegged stablecoins to other forms of stable assets like flatcoins.

It is worth noting that in August, the co-founder of Ethereum proposed several measures to safeguard the decentralization of the blockchain of the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization.
