Pavel Mamaev Reflects on His Decision to Retire from Football and His Wifes Support

Former midfielder of CSKA and Krasnodar, **[Pavel Mamaev](https://www.sports.ru/tags/2296-mamaev/)**, reflected on his decision to leave professional football.

“When our son was born, my wife and I took some time off in the summer. It made me realize that I no longer wanted to head off to training camps and go through the same routines I’ve followed throughout my life. I decided I wanted to spend more time with my family and explore other pursuits in the future, so the decision came quite easily.

My wife encouraged me to continue playing, reminding me that opportunities were still available, but I told her I was simply tired and didn’t want to continue anymore. That’s how my decision was made,” Mamaev said, as quoted by Metaratings.

Pavel Mamaev retired from professional football in February 2023, with his final club being the Moscow region team Khimki. Throughout his career, which started at Moscow’s Torpedo, he also played for clubs like CSKA, Krasnodar, and Rostov. In total, the former athlete played 307 matches in the Russian Premier League, scoring 38 goals and providing 34 assists to his teammates.
