В ChatGPT для молодежи: OpenAI вводит контроль за безопасностью пользователей до 18 лет Headline: Youth Version of ChatGPT: OpenAI Introduces Safety Controls for Users Under 18

OpenAI has launched a dedicated version of ChatGPT with parental controls aimed at users under 18 to enhance safety measures.

If the company identifies a user as a minor, they will be automatically directed to a child-friendly version of the chatbot. This version restricts graphic sexual content. In cases of acute crises, law enforcement may be notified.

OpenAI is working on technology that will enable more accurate age detection of users. However, if there are any uncertainties or if the information is lacking, ChatGPT will default to the youth version.

«It’s challenging to get this right, and even the most advanced systems sometimes struggle with age detection. If we’re uncertain or the information is incomplete, we’ll opt for the safer route and activate the teen version of ChatGPT by default—meanwhile, adults will have the option to verify their age to unlock full functionality,» stated the blog.

These updates followed the initiation of an investigation by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission into several AI startups. The regulator aims to understand how companies assess safety and monetization practices for digital companions and what measures are taken to mitigate negative impacts on children and teenagers.

In August, OpenAI shared plans to address the shortcomings of ChatGPT when dealing with «sensitive situations,» following a lawsuit from a family that blamed the chatbot for a tragedy involving their son.

By September, it became known that the startup aimed to introduce parental controls and redirect sensitive conversations to reasoning models.

«We prioritize safety over privacy and freedom for teenagers. This is new and powerful technology, and we believe that minors need serious protection. The decisions are complex, but after consulting with experts, we concluded that this is the best approach, and we want to be transparent about our intentions,» wrote OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

By the end of September, the app will feature parental controls that will allow:

Let’s remember that in July, OpenAI introduced a special study mode for students in ChatGPT, designed to help them tackle tasks step-by-step rather than simply providing ready-made answers.
