Man Detained for Grenade Assault on Regional Government Center in Samara

Authorities in the southern Samara region of Russia have announced the arrest of an individual who reportedly threw a grenade at a government facility on Thursday.

A Soviet-era explosive device went off close to the entrance of the primary government building in Samara, causing damage to a section of the pavement, as detailed in a statement by Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev.

There were no reported injuries or additional damage from the attack, which occurred at 5:30 a.m., according to Fedorishchev’s message on Telegram.

«What was the intention behind this? Was it meant to instill fear? It’s futile,» he remarked.

The suspect may be facing up to 20 years of imprisonment for terrorism charges, based on an unverified report by local blogger Ksenia Shtefan.

She alleged that the man was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of his arrest. According to Shtefan, law enforcement officials located the man at his residence using footage from security cameras.

The individual is said to have told investigators that he stumbled upon the grenade that later detonated near the government building, according to Shtefan.
