Эрик Шмидт предсказывает массовую утрату рабочих мест из-за общего искусственного интеллекта в ближайшие годы Translation: Eric Schmidt predicts mass job loss due to artificial general intelligence in the coming years.

Most individuals are likely to lose their jobs within three to six years following the advent of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), as stated by former Google CEO Eric Schmidt.

He remarked, «A new, inhumane form of intelligence is emerging, which will likely possess better reasoning abilities than the average human. Typically referred to as AGI — superintelligence. This will happen very rapidly, and humanity is not prepared for it.»

All experts in San Francisco who work with Schmidt share a belief that such AI will materialize within the next two to four years. The breakthrough will be driven by reasoning systems of AI models.

«Take, for instance, GPT-4o-mini, and observe how it constructs chains of reasoning — it’s mind-blowing, especially when you pose a question on a topic you know nothing about and watch its thought process,» he pointed out.

The consensus among scientists in San Francisco is that we will soon reach a point of «recursive self-improvement,» where the system will learn from itself and accelerate at a pace beyond human comprehension.

«I expect that by the end of this year, you will start using systems that learn while you interact with them — this is a natural evolution. Part of why massive investments in hardware are justified is that such reasoning models are exponentially more expensive than regular search, requiring more electricity and requests. The recursive journey has already begun,» Schmidt noted.

In his view, AI agents and breakthroughs in machine reasoning will fundamentally transform workflows across all sectors of human activity. Governments and officials are not fully aware of the scale of potential consequences. Authorities are entirely unprepared for the speed of upcoming changes, the engineer emphasizes.

Within a decade, an intelligence will emerge that surpasses the collective intelligence of all humans. It will be capable of proving theories that humanity cannot comprehend.

«When people witness this, some might resort to violence, such is their fear. I believe this will come to pass within a decade,» predicted the former Google CEO.

The emergence of such an advanced AI raises fundamental questions about the preservation of democracy, national security, and politics. However, Schmidt believes there is no bubble in the sector, despite the rapid construction of data centers.

He describes AI as a «scalable to infinity» field — with no rigid growth limits. It may seem that data has reached its end, but that is not the case.

Schmidt also commented on the competition between the U.S. and China. He pointed out that, in the United States, due to substantial capital, companies are more likely to keep their source code closed and build massive data centers and services. In contrast, China is fostering the development of open AI models with government support. The result — open-source software will spread globally, yet America and the West will maintain a lead in quality.

As a reminder, in August, Google announced a global expansion of its AI Mode — a search feature that allows for complex and clarifying queries to delve deeper into topics. Additionally, agency and personalized capabilities have been integrated into the tool.
