Schreier: Hogwarts Legacy Sequel Will Not Be a Live Service Game

Recent developments within the gaming division of **Warner Bros. Discovery** are certainly raising concerns in the community and the industry as a whole. Are other studios within the corporation at risk of closure, and has the service-oriented model impacted the current projects of **Warner Bros. Games**? **Jason Schreier** addressed these questions during the Kinda Funny Gamescast podcast.

According to the journalist, gamers no longer have an overwhelming craving for games based on **»Harry Potter,»** so the sequel to **Hogwarts Legacy** is unlikely to achieve the same level of success as its predecessor. **Schreier** noted that the continuation of **»Legacy»** won’t be a live-service game, much like the upcoming **Batman** title from **Rocksteady**.

On the topic of the proverbial elephant in the room, the journalist pointed out that the term «live-service games» is often used in financial reports by **WB Games** to appease investors. In reality, the division is not heavily focused on this model, at least not for its current projects. Additionally, **Warner Bros.** is also expanding into mobile gaming.

**Schreier** mentioned that the remaining studios under **Warner Bros.**—like **Rocksteady** and **WB Games Montréal**—are not facing immediate closure: *“A significant layoff has already occurred. I can’t envision a scenario where something similar would happen in the next year.”* **Warner Bros.** intends to allow these teams a few years to gauge progress on their current projects and reap the benefits of a revamped strategy.

The journalist also highlighted that the position vacated by former **Warner Bros. Games** president **David Haddad** will be temporarily filled by **JB Perrette**, the CEO of the gaming and streaming divisions of **Warner Bros. Discovery**. **Schreier** views this personnel change as a “small ray of hope” for the company’s gaming sector. There was widespread dissatisfaction among studios about **Haddad’s** management, while **Perrette** has received positive feedback.

As a reminder, the main focus of the podcast revolves around the troubles faced by **Monolith Productions**, leading up to its closure and the cancellation of the **Wonder Woman** game.
