ZachXBT разоблачает миф о «гениальности» северокорейских хакеров как обман Translation: ZachXBT Exposes the Myth of North Korean Hackers Genius as a Deception

The media often exaggerates fear by portraying hackers from North Korea as «big and terrifying,» which is far from accurate. This perspective was shared by on-chain investigator ZachXBT.

«In my personal experience, IT workers [from North Korea] are simply individuals who weren’t competent enough to get into more secretive divisions,» he stated.

ZachXBT’s comments were a response to an interview with Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, where he discussed changes in hiring practices due to threats from North Korea. The exchange has shifted its candidate selection process to an offline format.

Now, the trading platform requires all applicants to be physically present in the U.S., to turn on their cameras during interviews, and to possess U.S. citizenship. Additionally, those handling sensitive information are required by Coinbase to submit their fingerprints.

ZachXBT considers these measures excessive. He believes that the root cause lies in plain negligence. He pointed out that most attacks by North Korean hackers could be thwarted with minimal checks.

«It’s easy to create a fake job posting for a fake company, and North Korean IT specialists will inundate it with applications. Forcing them to do silly things—like barking like a dog or meowing like a cat during a call—is a piece of cake. Honestly, it’s time to start trolling them on YouTube like Indian phone scammers,» he added.

Recall that in mid-August, an unknown user hacked the account of a North Korean IT specialist. At that time, ZachXBT indicated that the vulnerabilities were exacerbated by the overwhelming workloads in HR departments within cryptocurrency firms.
