Ternavsky: Cherchesov is the Best Choice for Akhmat, Now Its Time to Turn Things Around

Former Russian national team footballer **Vladislav Ternavsky** has shared his thoughts on the appointment of his ex-teammate **Stanislav Cherchesov** as the head coach of Grozny’s FC Akhmat.

«I’m pleased to see Cherchesov returning to the Russian Premier League after being away for ten years. It will be interesting to see how he fares with Akhmat. Starting with three losses in the league and one in the cup isn’t an ideal beginning. Now there’s a match against Zenit coming up, so Cherchesov needs to turn things around quickly. However, he has limited time—just three days to prepare. If they win, that’s great, but if they lose, expectations shouldn’t be too high. They need at least a week to play a few matches.»

«I believe Cherchesov is the best option for Akhmat. He has achieved significant success with the Russian national team. I was somewhat surprised he took this position with a club that isn’t among the elite, but on the other hand, a coach needs to stay active. Adiev also took on the role at Khimki and is now at Krylya Sovetov; otherwise, he would have just waited at home. Cherchesov was out of work for six months, so why not seize the opportunity now?» Ternavsky remarked in an interview with Championat’s correspondent Alexander Ershov.

Prior to the start of the season, FC Akhmat was led by Russian coach Alexander Storozhuk, under whose guidance the team suffered four consecutive defeats in their first four matches. Cherchesov managed Akhmat from September 2011 to May 2013.
