After Months of Speculation, Call of Duty Developers Acknowledge the Use of AI in Game Development

After months of speculation and accusations from the community, the developers of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 have officially acknowledged the use of generative AI. Recently, confirmations that neural networks contributed to the creation of “some in-game assets” appeared on the pages of both the sixth installment and the entire series on Steam.

Steam requires developers to disclose information about AI usage prior to the product’s release; however, it remains unclear why the creators of Black Ops 6 did not provide this information sooner.

Gamers have speculated about the involvement of neural networks in development for several months, pointing out promotional art featuring odd details, such as a Santa Claus zombie with six fingers. Meanwhile, Activision Blizzard did not respond to the gamers’ critiques, which only fueled the frustration among fans even more.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is available on PC (Steam, Battle.net), PlayStation, and Xbox, including Game Pass. A text translation in Russian is also available.
